Susan Luck

Editor's Corner

Welcome to the February issue of the Yellow Courtyard Newsletter. In last month’s issue, I shared the vision and hope in the new administration’s “Wellness Initiative for the Nation” direction in healthcare.

“The purpose of the Wellness Initiative for the Nation (WIN) is to proactively prevent disease and illness, promote health and productivity, and create well-being and flourishing for the people of America. The WIN concept paper addresses strategies for creating health, saving costs, and enhancing wellness through a concerted focus on self-care, core lifestyle change and integrative health care practices. In addition, WIN can prevent the looming fiscal disaster in our health care system.” This document has just become available online at: www.Samueliinstitute.org.

Imagine a new health care paradigm that honors and supports our work in integrative care! On that note, Yellow Courtyard will be represented at the Integrative Health Symposium, February 19-22nd in New York City. (www.ihsymposium.com) and will report back the highlights of the Conference in our next Newsletter. Stay tuned!

Warmly,

Susan

So when he invited my daughter Mica and me to accompany him on a road trip to visit our mutual friend Muriel, we excitedly agreed.

Environmental Corner:
A Heavy Load: Health Risks Associated with Heavy Metals
in collaboration with the Earthrose Institute (www.earthrose.org)

As American life expectancy continues to increase, the pressing concern for many people has shifted from living longer to living healthier. Good nutrition, physical activity, and stress reduction are integral parts of the healthy living equation, and health practitioners are always looking for innovative ways to encourage healthy behaviors. However, try as we might, we cannot escape the many environmental chemical exposures we come into contact with daily.

Many of the diseases we have been taught to think of as part of “normal” aging may, in fact, be manifestations of our body’s accumulation of heavy metals and other toxins. This is an additional factor to consider when focusing on living healthier.
