Editor's Corner

The Biltmore Hotel’s first annual Acufest was a success! Thank you all for attending and participating in this extraordinary event, from the full moon party to the practitioner workshops.

Our integrative health care community was well represented and offered experiential sessions and talks to the public, sharing our work as acupuncturists, tai chi and qigong masters, holistic nurses, and energy healers. Our environmental community organizations participated and brought information and raised awareness on how to live a green life.

As a green hotel, the Biltmore, with its attentive and caring staff, demonstrated to the thousands of attendees what a green future can offer by providing organic food and wine, and nourishing our body and spirit, individually and collectively.
A good time was had by all. If you missed it, we are already planning the next one for 2010!

This is our community practitioner Newsletter and we welcome your thoughts and input on your experience at the Acufest. We invite you to write an article, and to share your work and vision for a healthier community with us all.

In good health,

Susan

Cell Phone Update: The Buzz continues
Cell Phone
The Environmental Working Group just released a report that ranks cell phones by the watts per kilogram of radiation they put out. This month, lawmakers in Washington, D.C., heard from scientists about the long-debated link between cell phone radiation and some forms of cancer.
The Federal Communications Commission, Food and Drug Administration, American Cancer Society and the National Cancer Institute all say there is no proven health risk posed by cell phones. In 2003, an extensive FDA study concluded that "the weight of scientific evidence has not linked cell phones with any health problems."

Florida's Gender Bending Chemicals
Frogs living in agricultural areas of Florida are more likely to be feminized than their suburban counterparts. Along the shore of Florida’s Lake Okeechobee, male toads seem more like females. Most have ovaries as well as testes, the mottled skin of a female and depleted testosterone. Nearby, in a Palm Beach suburb, the frogs are normal. The difference? The feminized ones live in areas with heavy agriculture while the normal males inhabit suburban areas.
