Editor's Corner
From all of us at Yellow Courtyard we wish you a New Year filled with peace, health, and joy. Change is in the air!
As many of you know, the Obama transition team encouraged practitioners nationwide to come together to discuss what a new healthcare paradigm could look like. Meetings took place in our local community and the consensus reached was that that there needs to be a complete shift from a disease-oriented model to a wellness model where integrative care and accompanying healing modalities would become accessible to all.
On a national level, I joined in this conversation with the members of the Obama transition team and approximately 100 practitioners and health policy experts from around the country who participated via conference calls, a survey, and review of a proposal called the Wellness Initiative for the Nation or WIN. This document will soon be available for public comment on the www.change.gov website. Please give your thoughts and suggestions to this work in progress so that a new healthcare paradigm can become a reality for all!
Yellow Courtyard, in support of this Initiative, is planning to hold a community forum with our practitioner network in the near future. Please contact me if you would like to be involved in helping to organize this event.
Warmly,
Susan

Happy New and Conscious Year to You!

A celebration of a new year, a new president and an unprecedented time and opportunity for us to redefine our thoughts, words and actions if we so choose. It is what one holds within that consequently gets reflected without and called “my externalized reality” that is being redefined.

Nutrition Corner: What is Metabolic Syndrome?
in collaboration with the Earthrose Institute (www.earthrose.org)
Over 50 million Americans today have Metabolic Syndrome.
As Dr. Mark Hyman expressed in his recent talk at the Yellow Courtyard, Metabolic Syndrome has become a ‘hot topic’ with global epidemics of diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular disease, all aspects of the metabolic syndrome. Preventing and managing this syndrome will be ever more important in coming years and for future generations.
Metabolic Syndrome, also coined, “Syndrome X” is characterized by insulin resistance with accompanying abnormally high blood sugar, serum lipids, elevated blood pressure, excess abdominal weight and obesity, and increased blood-clotting tendencies. Insulin resistance is a generalized metabolic disorder in which the body can’t use insulin efficiently.
