Letter from Jason Gordon
Founder and CEO of Yellow Courtyard

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to our new monthly newsletter.  You will find this newsletter to be informative and helpful to your ongoing practice. I realize that we all receive a tremendous amount of emails throughout the day. Our intention is to provide a newsletter that will connect you with other practitioners and bring you the most up-to-date and concise information that can be of benefit to you and your practice.
As with everything we do, we always include the Yellow Courtyard community of Practitioners – and who better to learn from and to share their knowledge through this newsletter than you.

That is why we are asking you to submit articles, book reviews, workshop proposals, and anything else you think would be of interest to fellow practitioners.

We are here to help nurture and support you and the healthcare community both personally and professionally. This newsletter is one such step in that process. We look forward to your continued guidance and support.

In good health,
Jason Gordon

Courtyard Market Update

Have you ever found yourself sending your patients/clients to the nearest health food store to purchase the appropriate herb, remedy, detox program, DVD or Yoga Mat? Imagine if you had your own store, you would be deriving this extra revenue yourself. Why should you be a sales person for the nearest store when you can have your own? Of course, the problem is you want to focus on your patients and not on the logistical details of opening a store. However, what if there was a way to run your own store and there was nothing extra that you had to do. The Courtyard Market will handle everything for you. The Courtyard Market has not only put in place all the selection criteria you would want for your practice, but also the operational efficiencies to accomplish everything you don't have time for. For instance: order taking, shipping and fulfillment services, returns processing, accounting inventory reconciliation and products. To learn more about how this market can serve you and feed your practice, email mystore@courtyardmarket.com or call 888-922-2730.

Yellow Courtyard Practitioner: Staying Connected

Since the beginning of Yellow Courtyard, it has been our intention to create a forum and facilitate communication between you and your fellow Yellow Courtyard community practitioners. We are excited to share that from the many options we’ve been researching we have decided to have a group page on Facebook. This is a very accessible and easy to navigate portal of communication which allows individuals and groups to connect and create community. We feel that your participation in the Yellow Courtyard Practitioner Group via Facebook will serve you by sharing your practice, interests, increasing visibility, networking and community outreach. The Yellow Courtyard Practitioner Group will deepen our connection with you and offer exciting group discussions, share current events, and continue being of service to you.

We are launching our Yellow Courtyard Practitioner Group on Facebook next month (August) and will contact you with invitations to join the group. We look forward to seeing you there and staying more connected!

Practitioner Corner: One Practitioner’s Perspective

Daniel Wasserman, Acupuncture Physician
Being personally involved in medical collaborations involving multiple healing modalities, I have seen how they can benefit patients on so many levels. My perspective is limited to my own experience and expertise. Through collaborations, I can access new insights from other practitioners and modalities. Patients feel properly cared for when they know that physicians and healers are discussing their case. Unfortunately, the transformation of medicine into the modern era has brought the medical experience to a place where, oftentimes, a person is relegated to a set diagnostic codes and procedural numbers. It is no wonder that more and more people are seeking alternative forms of health care. Certainly, in these circles, the individual is generally given more attention than the common 5-minute office visit. However, even within the sea of alternative and complementary practitioners, an individual could drown in it’s disjointed incohesiveness and lack of intercommunication.

Research Corner: Here Comes The Sun:
Vitamin D and Health

Sunlight has always been known to be a healing energy. Hippocrates, the father of modern Medicine, and Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, prescribed sunlight to heal many disorders including tuberculosis, rickets in children, and war wounds. Sunlight remains an important energy source for healing the body and mind. A recent study showed that patients assigned to bright, sunny rooms needed much less pain medication following surgery and healed more quickly.

Exposure to natural sunlight has declined in recent years, greatly accelerated by the fear of sun exposure and increased risk of skin cancer. The benefits of exposure to sunlight are once again emerging from the dark; there is simply too much evidence supporting its use to ignore.

Growing Healthy Children
Children face unique hazards from pesticide and other toxic chemical exposure. They take in more pesticides relative to their body weight than adults in the food they eat and air they breathe. Their developing organ systems often make them more sensitive to toxic exposure. The U.S. EPA, National Academy of Sciences, and American Public Health Association, among others, have voiced concerns about the danger that pesticides pose to children. The body of evidence in scientific literature shows that pesticide exposure can adversely affect a child’s neurological, respiratory, immune, and endocrine system, even at low levels. Several pesticides, including organophosphates are also known to cause or exacerbate asthma symptoms.
